Like fingernail art, body paint art,art painted on the hands, lip art is a design that uses a human mouth, or rather the lips to create art. Designs are painted on and around the lips and resemble a number of creatures or any other funny and creative design.

The technique is rather simple. Using either body paint or better, some lipsticks, use the lips as the body or main part of the design and drawing around the lips the outlying parts of the design.

Animal shapes are often easier to do than other creations. Other good ideas can be obtained by looking at some comic creations from children's publications as well as designs from playing cards or video games like Pokemon.

Use creativity and carefully draw your art work. Use paints that are streak free, hypoallergenic and if using lip sticks test them on your hand first to see if the color are bright and that they resemble the colors that you want to use. Often the color of the lip stick does not look the same once you apply it to the skin.

It is a good idea to discuss the project with sales personnel as they are more knowledgeable about the products that they sell and will be able to offer you better guidance as to which brands or tones will produce the best results.

First draw your design on paper to get a better idea as to how you should approach the lip painting. You can then use this paper drawing as a guide to help you when doing the actual painting.

Other parts that you can incorporated into the drawing are the teeth, the chin and cheeks You can also draw a design on the lips and use it to complement other art work. You should use a lens that allows you to get in close and crop the face with the exception of the lips or where the designs are done.

Try to use various designs such as doing it around an open mouth, like a drawing of a fish with its mouth gaping, use the teeth as complementing elements but try not to paint on them like if the person's teeth are those of a tiger. In other words, incorporate as much as you need to but keeping the concept of having the lips be the main focusing point in the photographs.

Do not use a flash for this technique as it will most likely result in a flash back. Keep in mind that lip gloss and most body paints are very reflective.

The resulting photographs can be used to place on many social sites like Pinterest, Scoop.it, and Snip.t. They can also be used by some greeting card.publishers, by photographic stock houses, and by many photography publications as well.
