How to Photograph for Your Den

Depending on what materials are used for the furniture then the photographs should be mounted in likewise materials. Wood goes well with most other accents especially wood furniture or leather.

Frame the pictures in wood that has a similar color palette as that of the furniture pieces and this in return will make the room seem cohesive. Avoid using metal frames or shinny ones as this serves to distract from the cohesiveness as well as making them stand out too much.

Remember that the idea is to make a place where you can feel comfortable and at the same time it also invites others to feel the same.

There are many men who have the space and time to dedicate to making a comfortable "man cave" often just called a den. If you are one of the lucky few who have the space then it is worth considering how to best decorate and ad accents that will make this personal space feel comfortable and inviting.

Besides the furniture, accents, and especially photographs can make it feel like its your own and give your den that special touch. Start with photographs of things or subjects that appeal to you like cars, guns, sports or even good looking women, although the later can translate into cheesiness if you do not use good taste. Nudes should be avoided unless they feature tastefully done portraits and even then using them limits who may feel comfortable in a room full of nudes.

There are also many themes to choose from like sports, automotive, beers or a hobby theme. Just plan to build up your room to fit the theme.

Using subdued lighting can make any room feel cozy and inviting. Lighting fixtures which fit into recessed spaces usually perform best for this purpose but they are not primordial must have elements. So long as they fit in with the rest of the pieces there is a large array to choose from.

Again be careful not to use fixtures that are too bulky or intricate.They should be installed to give illumination and not to be centers of attention. Track lights ,sconces and monorail styles work real well and can be adapted to fit most any scheme.

Other pieces should be those that fit your own personal style but they should nevertheless fit in with the general decor of the entire room. Avoid using plain posters without frames as they can look rather cheap and out of place. If you are going to do your own photography, then look for subjects that because of their own color palette blend in well.

It is better if at all possible, to frame them against a black background or at least one which does not feature too many distracting elements. Keep in mind that you are aiming for complementing pieces not articles that draw the attention from the "feel" of the room of contrast with the rest of the pieces which you have chosen to make this room your own.

This does not signify that you should exclude those accents that are specially noteworthy or even valuable like an old collector's gun which has great value. The main thing to consider is how to showcase it. Even a piece that has a contrasting color yet has its own intrinsic value can be made to fit in if it is displayed or mounted on a suitable complementing holder.

Since most "man caves" feature a large television or entertainment center console as its main piece of interest, surrounding it with very intricate accents will also serve as a distraction to those watching the "game" It is better to place these pieces a few feet away from the entertainment center.

Rugs and area bean bags should also be in the same color scheme as the rest of the furniture and they should be placed preferably away from the center locations so as to serve as relaxation corners when the television is not the main attraction.

If you are going to have refreshment coolers, consider making a wood cover for them. There are plenty of hardware stores that will not only sell you the wood but will also cut it for you and you can paint it afterwards.

I have seen some rooms that have featured old antique style doors or window covers which have been adapted to fit over floor coolers and blend exceptionally well with their surrounding pieces. Plus an old antique door can be easily converted into a center table. Here you can either repaint it or leave it as is especially if it still has some old original colors on it and they make very interesting conversation pieces.

The key if using these doors is not to over work them so much that they no longer resemble what they once were. Leave enough of the original workmanship and paint to make them recognizable, even leaving its original hardware ads to their charm.

Just be sure to clean them and treat them against rot and any infestation such as termites. Many antique store have them and they can be reasonably priced.

Whatever room or available space you end up using it is always a good idea to make it easy to move in and not to filled with so many accents and pieces that it restricts movement. The idea is to make this special room inviting , comfortable and a place where you and your guests can feel at ease while enjoying a good sports game along with a cold one. If you and your guest have to watch where they step and be careful not to knock something down then it juts becomes another room in the house.

One of the most important considerations is to measure the space carefully and plan accordingly. There is no need to go out and get everything at once. Often acquiring especial pieces one at a time gives the experience that much more of an accomplishment.

Concentrate on locating suitable arrangements as you are able to and keep on a budget. The house is the most important aspect of your home. The man cave is an added bonus but only if it will not put you in debt and cause distress to those you love.

Make sure to include the members of the family in the planing and decorating moments so that they too feel that they contributed and can feel that they can also come here and relax as well as spending some time with the man of the house. ( notice I didn't say the boss...)
