How to Photograph Country Living

To start your project you must first locate a suitable environment; a farmhouse or any dwelling situated withing the compounds on a country life and atmosphere.

Start by capturing images of what the general location has to offer; vast fields, fields of crops, hay stacks, farm equipment, woods and the wildlife but also including some of the livestock, since no country house can be said to be such without their presence.

Even the ever present rooster who never fails to wake you from your slumber at the most unseemly estranges of hours should be photographed.

Pay attention to see if you can capture an image of a roster in silhouette from as they stand for the essence of the country life.

Living in the country brings many wonderful experiences. Frugality may be one, but simplicity and peace of mind have to rank among the highest of benefits.

Everything is simple and everything has a purpose. We often get so overwhelmed by the intricacies of modern day city living that we often overlook how much happier we may be if we were living in the country.

Capturing the essence of what it means to live a simple live among nature means and the benefits that such a lifestyle may provide. Photographing such lifestyle is not difficult and can offer viewers a true taste of what this lifestyle truly represents.

I have been fortunate enough to have lived in the country, albeit for only a short time, I will never forget how happy and relaxed I always felt. From the first cup of coffee til dinner everything was done in ease and everything was enjoyed.

Among the things that should be included in your photographic project are some of the decorations used in the living quarters as well as the outdoor areas.

Often you will be amazed as how simple things can be turned into eye pleasing accents to any area.

Flowers, pots, old wood benches ,chairs and some garden tools are routinely used and they give a romantic almost nostalgic feeling to any area where they are featured.

These along with the typical subtle paint used in most of them makes you feel at ease and tend to relax you.

Outdoor activities should also be captured as they are clear indicators of where you are and seem to relate how life is carried on by those lucky enough to call this country life their own..

No country life can be said to be free of some nuances but these too can be used in you photo project. Insects are a part of daily life and should be included but this does not mean that you should capture images of a mosquito as it bites you.

Instead try to record photographs of them in their natural environment. I know I said mosquitoes but aim to capture images of butterflies and many other creatures as they too make their life in the country.

Other wild creatures are bound to be plentiful such as rabbits, deer, possums, squirrels, a multitude of birds and many others, including them in the final project adds realism and perspective to the life of a country dweller.

Every aspect that forms part of a country life should be covered. Your images should be a clear and consistent representation that will transport your photograph's viewers into this world.

They should be able to see how a family lives in the country, how everyday things happen, what it takes to live in such an environment, and the images should also be true representations of the characters that evolve from such a life.

There should not be doubt as to how living in the country plays a role in the shaping of a culture and how people's lives are in a way shaped by this living style.

This project should also not be devoid of color. There are many aspect that can not only be representational of the country life but are also full of color.

Wild flowers, sunsets, colorful tools and equipment the colors of some of the wild inhabitants play an important photographic role as they make the entire presentation informative but pleasing to look at as well.

Capture images from various angles and use different perspectives. Don't just limit yourself to taking portraits of the people and the animals. Use long lenses, wide angles, do close ups and even macro.

All these combinations will yield a plethora of variations that you can examine later and from which you can make your selections of the best photographs to share with others.

Don't forget that you can use the photographs in the production of an e book and on a calendar.

Also take time to learn as much of the experience as possible so that if you can write an article to accompany your images you will have a good perspective to do so.

Including a written piece that complements your images is a good way to ensure that your project will be well received by publications that feature such work. It must be truthful and realistic as should go well hand in hand with the images.

Approach the project as it you were a journalist who is going to write about the experiences of living in the country and use the images to back the story up.
