Alphabet Photography Art

Alphabet photography is not new, It has been done in many ways and just as with many subjects. The fun part of this project is to add a twist to an old style or concept.

Simply put you decide what it is that you want to spell out. Let's say for example that you want to spell out the word Love.

Start by taking a photograph of something that starts with the letter L, next take a picture of something that starts with the letter O, the letter V would be next and the letter E would be the final one.

Note that you are not looking for the letters as individuals, the fun is to look for subjects whose name you can use so long as this name starts with the letter that you need.

By doing this alphabet photography this way you have a larger margin of subjects from which to compose a series of pictures from and which first letter of the subject's name is also the first letter of the word that you want to spell.

Bottom line is that your imagination is the limit when it comes to doing an alphabet photographic project this way.

Like with many photographic projects you can also do themes like capturing an image of something that feels like love, fear, caring, happy and so on. Here the project becomes a bit trickier because what can mean happy to you may not signify the same feeling to others.

You have to be aware of this and focus on things that a majority of people would identify as meaning the same thing that you imagined it to be.

Another worthwhile variation is to choose a framing style.

Here you capture subjects whose presentation will be enhanced by the frame upon which they are mounted.

Woodland scenes, dessert scenes, old garden scenes etc. would benefit from having an old walnut style wooden frame.

Winter scenes, water scenes, and similar scenery would benefit from being framed in a clear, bluish or white frame while darker themes would definitely benefit from an elegant looking black wood or ceramic framing.

The material and the color of the frame must somehow match the scene thus making the presentation take on a more elegant and striking appeal.

Another super fun variation is to simply look for things that because of their shape look like letters from the alphabet.

Yes this is probably more difficult than finding subjects whose first letter in its name is the one you need.

Because you are looking for naturally occurring or man made things that are not letters per say, they just have a shape that makes them look like a letter, can prove not only to be more challenge but lost more fun and it goes without saying that some letters will probably be much more difficult to find this way.

Things are not the only subjects that can have a shape. Be creative and look for shadows in the shape of a letter, maybe even cloud formations.

This makes for a great personalized gift, it is great for use in an activity book or project, great for photography scavenger hunts, for use in photographic publications, gallery presentations and on articles, blogs and eBooks.

It doesn't matter what you use the images for so long as you have fun doing it, practice your skills, learn from the activity and can see the results of your hard work in the end.
